Writer's Block: I Can Relate
Jun. 18th, 2009 11:33 am[Error: unknown template qotd] Arwen, the Elf princess from Lord of the Rings, because she made a choice to be human, and mortal. She could have chosen to be immortal, but wanted to have a family and be with her human love, Aragorn, who was a very special guy. In the end, apparently she lost him to death, and was so depressed she left her children and went off by herself to grieve and die alone.
She could still have chosen immortality then, but because she did not know there was still hope, a ship that would have taken her back to her father and the Elves, an immortal land full of healing. I think if someone else other than Tolkien had written her story, perhaps it would have turned out happier.
If you have the book, you can trace the timeline, and Legolas and Gimli built one of the last ships to go to Aman or Eldamar, and I am pretty sure they set sail after Arwen ended her days in Lotlorien.
I feel like I give up too soon and miss out on what there is. I hate tragic flaws.
