I watched some interesting programming on FSTV this a.m. Free Speech TV that is. I guess it's an alternate news channel. Some woman did a really good job talking about advertising from alcohol and tobacco companies, how they target youth, etc. They have to get them as young as possible, because the earlier kids start smoking, the more likely they'll become addicted to nicotine. They need new addicts to replace the astonishingly high number of people who die from lung cancer every year. They say their goal is to make money for stockholders, not be a social service who happens to make cigarettes.

A whistleblower found lots of memos & letters from company heads that are very enlightening. They have to make the antismoking adds, the ones that target youth especially. I wondered why I hate those adds and find them annoying. They are made specifically to make smoking appear glamorous to underage smokers, and don't really prevent kids from smoking or starting to.

Ugh, much more stuff like that. But it was much better to hear the truth. I know a lot of people who smoke, but I always felt rude, if they ask if it's okay, to say 'no'. I guess I still feel rude complaining about someone else's habit, bit it affects me, and if people can be stopped from starting, that would be great. I do think that cigarettes today contain a lot more nicotine and are more cancerous than they used to be, so it's a worse habit than it used to be.
