I went out kind of late to get the mail, happened to notice that the sleeping bag I'd put on the very top of the garbage can was not there. I leaned over just a little and looked under the porch. Sure enough, there was guy lying there. He must have thought maybe someone only shows up once or twice a week to get mail or whatever.
I called 911 and the police came. He was gone by then, but under the porch there were even more clothes, a pleather jacket and a backpack. They told me if he comes back to call. Also they said he's on private property, so he's a trespasser. I put all his stuff in a garbage can, didn't put it on the street, but just beside the porch. The police had told me to put a sign at the entrance to the underporch area saying "trespassers will be PROSECUTED". So I put two up, one saying "Stay out! Private property," and the other "Trespassers will be prosecuted".
I looked out less than an hour later, and the garbage can was nearly empty, but for a bit of junk in the bottom. So I guess that's that. I was a bit freaked out when I saw him sleeping under there. There was a whiskey bottle, Wild Irish Rose bottle, and some empty soft drink cups cans & bottles. Also some McDonalds lidded cups full of water and an unopened packet of ramen noodles.
Hopefully he understands the house is occupied now.

Oh, I got my Gmail email. I'm just going to take a day or two to think of a good name or two, in case what I want is taken.
